What We Do

See how RAH works out outside festivals to reduce waste, like our
partnership
with the
New Belgium Brewery's "Clips of Faith" traveling film fest.
In and around Madison, many local
events have NO recycling facilities! The sad thing is that
many patrons of these events don't even notice. People are great
at recycling and reducing waste in their homes and offices, but we need to help and
encourage them to "Recycle Away from Home." We RAH - we
want them to RAH too! So we work in conjunction with our
partners and the City of Madison and Dane County recycling programs to
help provide recycling opportunities, and with vendors towards the
goal of "zero waste" events when possible.
RAH has a few different faces. Our purpose is
to:
- Recruit volunteers to help setup,
tear down and manage recycling bins at local neighborhood events
- Inform vendors who sell beverages
and food at these festivals about how to purchase recyclable or
biodegradable materials and reduce the waste they generate overall
- Work with city and county offices to
increase exposure about the need for a comprehensive event recycling
and waste management program
-
Advocate that including waste
reduction and recycling plans as
part of overall event planning is a good business practice.
Recycling Away From Home substantially impacts waste hauling
costs, while helping answer a huge public environmental concern
about how land filling unneeded stuff contributes to global
warming.
It's not hard work, and you aren't asked
to do anything you're not comfortable with. And you can often drink
beer, listen to music, watch the people and enjoy the festival while
you do it! How can you beat that for a volunteer job!
